ABOUT

The  Intelligent Sensing & Perception Laboratory  (ISPL) is hosted by Curtin University, with key collaborating institutions from Australia, the United States, and Europe. ISPL evolved from the Signal Processing Laboratory (aka Advanced Signal Processing Group), one of the key research themes of the Western Australian Telecommunication Research Institute–a joint venture between The University of Western Australia and Curtin University. Since 2013, we have been working together in Curtin as a closely knit group with over 40 years of combined experience. We are pioneers the area of multi-object system, which has numerous applications in diverse disciplines from surveillance, robotics, computer vision, to cell biology. The main focus of our work is “Making Sense of the Data”, converting data from sensing devices and/or other sources into information for decision making. The team’s expertise include:

  • Bayesian Estimation and Decision Making
  • Multi-Source Multi-Object System
  • Situational/Domain Awareness
  • Communications
  • Optimisation
  • Signal Processing

Our group attracted several ARC  Fellowships, ARC Discovery and Linkage Grants, industry projects, and trained more than 25 PhD students. We have been involved in starting 3 spin-off companies Sensear, Hearmore and Nuheara either as founders or as main technical partners. We have also been contributing 7 patents, and awarded the prestigious Eureka prize as well as being finalists on other occasions.
